What may be covered

UnitedHealthcare covers doula services for both commercial and Medicaid members in California. Covered services include prenatal doula visits, continuous labor support, and postpartum doula visits. UnitedHealthcare’s doula benefit supports families with professional care throughout the perinatal journey.

Visits and eligibility

For UnitedHealthcare Community Plan Medi-Cal members, the doula benefit follows the California Medi-Cal structure: 1 initial visit (up to 90 minutes), 8 perinatal visits, continuous labor and birth support, 2 extended postpartum visits, and up to 9 additional postpartum visits with a written recommendation from a second provider. Commercial plan coverage varies — verify your specific benefits directly with UnitedHealthcare.
