IEHP Doula Coverage in California

What may be covered

IEHP (Inland Empire Health Plan) covers doula services for Medi-Cal members in Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. Covered services include prenatal doula visits, continuous labor support, and postpartum doula visits. IEHP’s doula benefit ensures that Inland Empire families have access to professional support during pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period at no cost.

Visits and eligibility

IEHP covers doula services for Medi-Cal members in alignment with the California Medi-Cal doula benefit: 1 initial visit (up to 90 minutes), 8 perinatal visits (prenatal or postpartum), continuous labor and birth support, 2 extended postpartum visits (up to 3 hours each), and up to 9 additional postpartum visits with a written recommendation from a second provider. Coverage is available up to 12 months postpartum, with no referral required.

Labor support

Your IEHP-covered doula provides continuous support throughout your labor, including comfort measures, position changes, breathing guidance, and emotional encouragement. Your doula works with your hospital team to help you feel informed and supported during your birth.

Postpartum support

IEHP covers postpartum doula visits to support your recovery and transition home. Postpartum visits include newborn care, feeding support, emotional check-ins, and connection to additional resources if needed. These visits help reduce postpartum complications and support maternal mental health.

To verify your IEHP doula benefits, call IEHP Member Services using the number on your member ID card and ask about doula services under your Medi-Cal benefit. You can also use our free benefits verification service to confirm your coverage.
