Health Net covers doula services for Medi-Cal members following the California Medi-Cal doula benefit. Covered services include prenatal doula visits, continuous labor support, and postpartum doula visits. Doulas must be PAVE-enrolled Medi-Cal providers, and no referral is required. Visits and eligibility
For Health Net Medi-Cal members, the doula benefit follows the California Medi-Cal structure: 1 initial visit (up to 90 minutes), 8 perinatal visits (prenatal or postpartum), continuous labor and birth support, 2 extended postpartum visits (up to 3 hours each), and up to 9 additional postpartum visits with a written recommendation from a second provider. Coverage is available up to 12 months postpartum, with no referral required. Commercial plan coverage may vary — verify your specific plan details.
Labor support
Your Health Net-covered doula provides continuous labor support including comfort techniques, position suggestions, breathing guidance, and emotional encouragement. Your doula helps you advocate for your birth preferences and works alongside your medical team.
Postpartum support
Health Net covers postpartum doula visits to help you recover and adjust to life with your new baby. Postpartum support includes feeding guidance, newborn care, emotional processing, and screening for postpartum mood concerns.
