Doula Enrollment and Credentialing Support in California
Insurance participation involves several approvals. We help you identify where you are in the process so you can work toward serving eligible families with a clear understanding of your provider status.
Four steps that should not be confused
A registry profile helps families discover your practice. An NPI identifies a provider. Medi-Cal enrollment establishes approved provider enrollment with the state. Health-plan contracting and any applicable individual participation requirements determine the arrangement for managed-care members.
Completing one step does not automatically complete the others. Keep approval letters, effective dates, and plan correspondence so the team can review what applies to your practice.
Start with your existing approvals
Tell us whether you already have an individual NPI, Medi-Cal enrollment, health-plan contracts, and current training and liability documents. Use your accurate legal and professional information, and ask about correcting discrepancies before an application is submitted.
Doulas new to enrollment can begin with the application checklist. Experienced providers should also share changes to service areas, qualifications, and availability.
Medi-Cal and managed care
DHCS uses the PAVE system for provider enrollment. Managed-care participation requires separate attention to the relevant plan and billing arrangement. Requirements and effective dates must be confirmed before scheduling care intended for insurance reimbursement.
Use the DHCS doula provider resources and provider toolkit as official starting points. The network cannot promise an insurer’s approval or a universal completion timeline.
Move from approval to client care
After reviewing your documents, ask the team which services and member plans you may serve, what documentation is required, and how the client’s benefits will be checked. An application or directory listing is not permission to bill every plan.
Keep your profile specific: list actual travel areas, languages, services, and virtual availability. Apply to join and explore insurance billing support.
