Visits and eligibility

Blue Shield Promise covers doula visits in alignment with the California Medi-Cal doula benefit: 1 initial visit (up to 90 minutes), 8 perinatal visits, continuous labor and birth support, 2 extended postpartum visits, and up to 9 additional postpartum visits with a written recommendation from a second provider. Coverage is available up to 12 months postpartum, with no referral required.

Your Blue Shield Promise-covered doula provides continuous labor support including comfort techniques, position suggestions, and emotional encouragement throughout your birth.

Postpartum support

Blue Shield Promise covers postpartum doula visits to support your recovery, feeding, and emotional well-being during the fourth trimester.
