Since January 2023, California’s Medi-Cal program has covered doula services. Learn what’s included, how to access your benefits, and what to expect.

California made history by becoming one of the first states to cover doula services through Medi-Cal. This means families enrolled in Medi-Cal managed care plans can receive birth and postpartum doula support at little to no cost. Coverage includes prenatal visits, labor and delivery support, and postpartum follow-up visits.
